FAQ

At what age should my daughter start using skincare?

If you’re reading this it’s a good indicator that you think your daughter is ready to start a healthy skin care routine. Sebum production starts between the ages of 9 and 10. We recommend our facial care products for girls who are starting to see signs of skin changes such as sallow dry skin, bumps or clogged pores. Dirt, grime and bacteria can do damage to young skin quickly. Just like learning to brush their teeth, a proper skin care routine is learned. It can take a while to get girls used to washing their face every day so we recommend starting before trouble starts and before the introduction of make up. Our body care products and deodorant can be started when you feel your child is ready to take responsibility for their own hygiene. Because our deodorant is aluminum free you can feel comfortable having your child use it at any time. The same with our Body Wash and Body Lotion. Your daughter will enjoy having products just for her, which encourages use.

Can boys use your products?

We get this question often and the answer is certainly YES! Our natural skin care is perfect for everyone. The scent is clean citrus so it is enjoyable for boys as well. If your guy is put off by the girl-centric label we recommend transferring product into travel size containers.

Can adults use your products?

Our products are filled with beautiful skin loving ingredients that rival even the finest adult brands. Many adults who have sensitive skin or adverse reactions to the anti-aging ingredients in adult products love Good For You Girls. We always encourage moms to use the products with their daughters for the first time to show them how to use them and so they can experience them themselves.

Why doesn’t your moisturizer have SPF?

Not having SPF in our moisturizer was a conscious decision. If you read the instructions on moisturizers with SPF they say to reapply often. Well we know that this is not going to happen with girls. Frankly we feel these types of moisturizers promote a false sense of security regarding sun protection. SPF is something to be taken seriously and we feel an SPF should be reapplied often. Our light-weight moisturizer can be worn anytime for its beautiful nurturing and protective properties.

When should my daughter wear make up?

At Good For You Girls we believe that the age a girl uses make up, should be a personal decision. At Good For You Girls we believe beauty comes from within. When skin is clean and healthy there is no reason to cover it up and we certainly don’t feel luminous young skin needs any covering up. We want girls to feel empowered by their natural beauty. Knowing girls usually start to wear makeup between the ages of 12 and 14 we encourage girls to learn to take care of their skin properly before then.

My local health food store does not carry your products.

If you have a favorite health food store that you wish carried Good For You Girls, please let us know and we will be happy to contact them.

Are your products hypoallergenic?

When you see the term hypoallergenic on packaging, it usually refers to a product that contains no additional fragrance. We do not use any synthetic fragrance in our products, however our products are scented with natural essential oils and aromatics, which adds to the enjoyable experience. We always recommend that a patch test be performed before using any new product. Simply apply a very small amount of a new product to one of the softer areas of your skin and observe it for a sensitivity reaction. For example massage it into the inside of the upper arm or behind an ear. Observe for 12-24 hours. If no irritation or redness develops you should be fine. We also only recommend adding one new product at a time spacing introduction out by at least 5 days.

Are your products organic certified?

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not regulate the term organic for beauty, body care, personal care, or other cosmetic products. Because the USDA regulates all organic agricultural products, a beauty product that contains agricultural ingredients may be eligible for organic certification. These products must meet USDA/NOP standards for organic production, handling, processing, and labeling. Many of the ingredients we use in our products are organic and listed as such on our labels but as a small company it is, at this time, price prohibitive for us to consider certification. We have full disclosure of ingredients on our labels and most of our customers tell us that it is our good ingredients, effective formulas and commitment to girls that make us one of their favorite brands.
